The Meisner Course offered at the Actor Door Studio is the core study program at the studio. It leads to professional development in acting.
Stage 1 / Acting Technique I (ATI) is the first stage of the course and covers the fundamentals or core modules of the Meisner Technique. We teach ATI in 7-9 week blocks.
To progress to the next stage, Stage 2 / Acting Technique II, students need to successfully complete the core ‘modules’ that are taught over Stage 1.
Time to complete Stage 1 is variable and depends on your natural abilities, your motivation and your commitment to the course. Committed students complete the ATI over 2 blocks (4 months).
During Stage 1, in each class, you will take part in exercises that are designed to progressively test your competence on key Meisner skills.
In each term/block, students also do scene work. Students study and analyse a scene from a play and learn how to apply the Meisner technique to progressively fine-tune performance.
You will also attend one of the weekly repetition classes to fine tune your rep skills. Repetition is required in all aspects of your Meisner work.
Preparation time outside of class is essential.
PREPARE TO BE CHALLENGED!
The Meisner Technique is a fully developed method acting technique. Each acting class is designed to progressively challenge you not only as an actor and also as a person. The Meisner method can be a real transformative experience. If you apply yourself you will become a more truthful, instinctive, emotionally connected actor and human being.
WHY STUDY IT HERE:
Whereas other teaching institutions provide classes in Meisner Technique on top and in addition to other teaching classes and styles, at the Actors Door Studio the Meisner technique is at the centre of teaching program. The Actors Door Studio specialises in Meisner because we believe it is the most effective and pragmatic technique for those seeking a professional career in acting.
Most importantly, the Actors Door Studio is concerned with quality as opposed to quantity. We keep class numbers small so students can benefit from the teacher’s specialist instruction. Additionally, there is no set time in which students need to complete the Meisner course, either in whole or in parts. Students advance through the course and work through each module at their own pace and in accordance with their abilities. Free from time constraints, the student can focus their attention on cultivating and improving on specific aspects of their craft and attaining excellence in acting and performance.
At the Actors Door Studio, we teach ‘real’ Meisner. Our Meisner classes dynamic and each one is unique. We promote a sense of community. Joining us will feel like you are joining a family; one that is mutually supportive and mutually encouraging in your career and development.
