Scene Analysis Workshop
Scene analysis workshops at the Actors Door Studio are the perfect opportunity to practice your ability to analyse a scene.
Being able to analyse or identify what a scene is about, will win you acting jobs.
What is scene analysis actually about?
Simply put, it is about answering some integral questions:
What is the scene really about?
What is character's role in this scene, given the context of the play? and,
What does the writer and/or director want the audience to experience/see/feel/understand?
To uncover the answers to these questions you must first begin with the script. The script will provide you with all the clues you need in order to develop character.
It will also guide you in how to approach your work in the play or film as a whole.
How do you do it?
Actors use a set of established techniques to help them perform text analysis on the material they are working on.
At The Door Studio we teach these techniques through scene analysis workshops and during the Meisner course.
The Meisner & Text Workshop is a week long training program that teaches actors how to apply the Meisner Technique to text.
Students who take the workshop do not need to have attended classes at the Actors Door Studio. However they do need to have experience and training in the Meisner Technique.
Students will find it useful to do more than one workshop throughout the year. Each time we will be working on a scene from a different play. Attending workshops regularly will help you fine tune perhaps some of the most important skills you need to succeed as an actor.
In the workshop we:
- Discuss the themes of the scene and the writer's intention behind the scene
- Learn how to identify plot points
- Learn to recognise key elements of the scene: CLIMAX, RESOLUTION, CONCLUSION
- Consider each character's role in the scene
- Learn to identify beats in the scene
- Learn to identify the character's OBJECTIVES and 'DOINGS' in the scene.
When attending the workshop, students are welcome to read the play from which the scene is taken.
Once you have registered for the workshop, you will be notified of the scene.
